About Newcastle

Newcastle is a vibrant city, the sixth largest in the UK. It has the following attractions:

1 - Millenium Bridge located at the Quayside which is a pleasant walk by the river. There is a famous Pitcher and Piano Gastropub where you can view the Millenium Bridge while drinking beer, or having a nice meal. The bridge will tilt itself allowing larger boats to pass underneath at certain times of the day, which is a nice event to witness.

2 - Hadrian's wall

3 - Blackfriar, a friary dating back to 1239 in the city centre. There is a famous restaurant there which is nice but expensive.

4 - Metro Centre, which is the largest shopping centre in Europe. It is based in Gateshead,and easily reachable by bus or train, just few miles from the city centre.

5 - Angel of the North, also located in Gateshead

6 - Chinatown in the City Centre (Stowell Street). Sky (accessible via a lift from the main street) boasts one of the best Chinese Dimsum in the UK.

6 - The Gate which is the centre of the nightlife in Newcastle, with various clubs and pubs around it.

The main shopping centre in the city centre is located at Eldon Square. It has major shops such as Apple, Fenwick, John Lewis etc. There is also Cruise which specialises in luxury clothing and handbags.

Newcastle generally comes to life during weekends, where it is famous for hen nights and stag do. You will find many visitors from all over the country celebrating the last days of being single here. However weekends stay tends to be more expensive including hotels because there is a high demand on accomodation. If you wish to visit Newcastle for a couple of nights, it is best to avoid the weekends.

The university ground is open to the public. You can take a stroll down Leazes garden and into the nice university ground if you wish to have a relaxed time. There are 2 main universities in the city centre, the Newcastle University and the Northumbria University.
